Andy, how much are you thinking of spending?
If you want to play pretty recent games I recommend these

Dell Inspiron 8600 - $2598. Details here

Toshiba Tecra M2 725 - $2970 Details here

The mutts nuts at the moment
Asus W1000N - $3950 - Details here

Thing to look for, based on your specs
Pentium M 725 (1.5GHz) OR Pentium 4 3.2GHz
At least 512MB RAM
At least 60GB hard drive
Windows XP Pro (if it only comes with home, we can all help out with this)

Check out this website for some prices. They have some brand name ones as well as a few clones. They have the ASUS and the Toshbia, but the DELL machine you have to buy directly from DELL.

DELL had a massive sale on last month, up to 33% off and free upgrades. They come along all the time, so don't stress if you want to get it.

My recommendation: I've used the Toshiba and it plays Need For Speed Underground 2 and a few other games pretty well.

The DELL's are great machines, I've had 3, and no problems whatsoever. But I haven't used that specific model.

As for the ASUS, it's got it all, TV tuner, DVD burner (but all three of the above models do) subwoofer, wireless and a few other bells and whistles. If I had the dosh, I'd be on this one.

Hope it all helps.

Andy, if you shop around the "sony vaio" ain't to bad either, But I'd agree with Big Rick, the "Dell" is great for the $$$. My inlaws have got 2 & swear by them! :pirate:
As for the laptos, I've seen them in china town for $500 or $250 & 2 chickens Thumbs Up
